Who We Are
SACCA is the official non-profit cooperating association of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) in Central Ohio. They are an independent business partner offering the opportunity to seek grants, provide sales and even fund raising to support the park. The grass roots Board of Directors provides business operations and governance. In Delaware County they support both Alum Creek dam, below dam and Visitor Center, as well as Delaware Dam and below dam area. This is federally managed area (not state park.) Simply put, federal parks function better with a non-profit partner, that is who we are.
What We Do
We believe community involvement in federal parks is critical -- starting with volunteerism. Lewis Center has a federal Visitor Center and that is a big deal. The Below Dam Recreation Area has three Recreation.gov Shelter Houses serving a diverse public with well managed, covered group space. The 1.5 mile dam is an exquisite walk. The Visitor Center is a great place and should be a destination. Of course, the real destination is in the Below Dam Recreation Area -- the Ohio Historical Marker marks the location of the Africa Community -- it appears to be a popular selfie location. We would like to develop ACE Ambassadors to serve the needs of the park and public. We need Advisory Committees for programs and facility improvements. We need Visitor Center greeters which provide a direct link to our community as well as promoting the Army Corps of Engineers Mission.
