Who We Are

Seminary Hill Farm covers ten acres of the Methodist Theological School in Ohio’s 82-acre campus. The farm produces fresh vegetables, flowers, and herbs for our campus community, local food banks, and through a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA).

MTSO cares for remaining campus land through the Land Stewardship Initiative:  woodland restoration, invasive species management, wetland and riparian zone restoration, native landscaping, and prairie establishment.

Both the farm and the land stewardship initiative are part of MTSO's active commitment to a just, sustainable, generative world.

For a personal introduction to volunteering, contact Laura Ann Bergman at seminaryhillfarm@mtso.edu.

Join us for one event or consider becoming an ongoing volunteer in one of four areas: Garlic mustard eradication, Children's Garden, Community Greens and Birding.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please complete the Volunteer Waiver prior to arrival.

Garlic Mustard Eradication:  Garlic mustard is a biennial herb that was introduced from Europe in the 19th century. Since its introduction, garlic mustard has made its way across most of the United States, including every county in Ohio. It poses a threat to our native species by competing with spring flowers and suppressing soil fungi that have synergistic relationships with trees. Because garlic mustard competes with the plants that native animals need for food and shelter, the whole woodland ecosystem is affected. If you enjoy spending time alone in nature, this may be the opportunity for you. Volunteer time frame: Mid-April to early June. Volunteers will be assigned zones that they can tend at a time of their choosing.

Children's Garden:  If you enjoy collaborative and creative gardening, consider participating in the Children and Youth Garden this year. The foundation of this team is a 90-foot diameter circular children’s garden and ADA accessible beds, which are the canvas for children’s activities every Tuesday evening from May-October during the Community Supported Agriculture season. This garden is also home to unity crops which are recommended by the community and represent many cultures. Volunteer time frame: Wednesdays from 10am-noon. April-November

Community Greens:  Grow vegetables for food insecure communities. Each season Seminary Hill Farm distributes vegetables to People in Need of Delaware County and Linden Fresh Market. We focus on greens (spinach, lettuce, chard, collards, kales, bok choi and more) and fresh herbs. The Community Greens field covers .25 acre (100x110 feet) and is exclusively for distribution to food insecurity partners. Volunteer time frame: Wednesdays from 10am-noon. (April-November); Thursdays from 6 pm-8pm (May-November)

Birding at MTSO: Come stroll the 80-acre campus with guidance of Susan W, a seasoned birder and help us create a monthly inventory of birds in 2026. This opportunity is excellent for new and seasoned birders alike. We are tracking the monthly inventory on e-Bird. We will also be establishing new blue bird and purple martin houses and looking at how to support migratory birds on campus. Volunteer time frame: First Mondays from 9 a.m.-11a.m.; Register for birding on POINT.  Hosting groups: We are happy to design and schedule volunteer experiences for groups.
