What is the history of Make A Difference Delaware County?
Connections Volunteer Center began hosting Make A Difference Day in 2007. Make A Difference Day was a national day of service for volunteers all over the country to gather together and help their communities. Connections hosted Delaware County’s first event with 50 volunteers who helped at a variety of local nonprofit organizations. Over the years the event grew to host approximately 500 volunteers each year helping at the homes of older adults and nonprofit organizations.
Connections Volunteer Center received a national award for this day of service in 2015 and 2018, being one of very few to ever win the award twice. In 2018, it was announced that Make A Difference Day would no longer be a national day of service. Connections renamed the local event to include ‘Delaware County’ and continued the tradition of hosting a county-wide day of service on the last Saturday of October.
In 2020, Connections and SourcePoint partnered to combine their efforts in serving older adults with leaf raking and moved the date to the second Saturday of November.
