First Fridays in Delaware are fun to attend, and they are more fun if you are helping event goers learn more about the Delaware County Historical Society.

The Historical Society has a booth at all Delaware First Fridays to let the public know about all of the events and all of the program and all of the good work that the Historical Society is doing.  Be a part of the First Friday Team, and help us spread the news of the Historical Society. 

You will work with a team of knowledgeable volunteers, and you will have information to help you answer any questions that come your way.  Contact the Historical Society for more information

If you enjoy working with children, but don’t want to be confined to a classroom, become a  School Committee volunteer for the Delaware County Historical Society. Help us provide hands-on historical experiences for our Delaware County students. No knowledge of history is required, no teaching degree required. We have a variety of activities including walking children from one session to another, timing presentations, or joining a sub committee that prepares material for teachers.  Contact us for more information

Spend First Fridays in Delaware, Ohio sharing information and stories about the Delaware County Historical Society’s Historic Jail and Sheriff’s Residence.

Built in the 1870’s, the Historic Jail and Sheriff’s Residence is open to the public for tours during Delaware, Ohio’s First Friday events, and we need volunteers to “show off” our jail.  You can choose to greet visitors as they enter the historic facility, or guide them through the sheriff’s living quarters and office or take them through the 16 cell “cell block”.  You will learn and retell stories about the sheriffs who occupied the residence and about inmates who did not want to occupy the jail.

Have a presence on social media is crucial to the success of the Delaware County Historical Society for program, events, and, in general, to educate the public about what we do.  We need help with social media

Digital Marketing  / Social Media Support (1-2) – to help with Eventbrite listings and developing/posting social media content; to assist in updating website conten

Delaware County Historical Society has many program, events, and publications that need the talent of a graphic designer.

Graphic Designers (1-3) – to help create flyers, posters, images for social media and update brochures, etc.

We have several properties that have gardens, and we need volunteers to help us maintain these gardens.  A volunteer can "adopt a garden" and be completely responsible for its maintenance, or can sign up for weeding or planting gardens.

Do you like socializing with others about the way things used to be? If you have a few hours a month on Sunday afternoon, we have a fun volunteer activity for you. We need docents to help educate the public about Meeker. Our Meeker Homestead Museum is open by appointment.  We need docents to show off our beautiful Meeker property

Docents greet visitors and help guide them through the Meeker Homestead Museum, and explain or add information to the exhibits that are at the Meeker Homestead Museum. You will receive training at the beginning of April, one-on-one training can be provided if you wish to start later in the year.  Help us spotlight this property gem to the public.

If you like to hear stories and you like to learn about the history of Delaware County, this project is right for you.  We need people who enjoy talking to people and who will listen to their stories.  We will help with the interview questions and will direct you to those whom we think should be interviewed, so you just bring your interest and your listening and your questions.  The interviews are recorded so that we can store them in our archives.

The Delaware County Historical Society has a newsletter that is distributed to its membership on a regular basis.  We need someone who enjoys writing and has computer skills.  The letter is produced on ConstantContact, so there is a design component, but there are templates available.  If you want experience in writing and designing a newsletter - this is for you
